Weekend Getaway-Pondicherry- Day 2

We woke up early on the second day as there was so much planned.First thing first. We got ready and had  south Indian breakfast and started our day.

First destination was  Sri Aurobinbo Ashram. For those who don’t know Aurobindo Gosh. Here is a brief description.

Aurobindo Ghosh who was born in Kolkata, was a spiritual Reformer. He joined the Indian Movement who fought for the Independence from British Rule. He became one of the influential leader of the time. He was put in Jail by the British for writing articles against the British rule.He had spiritual experiences during his stay in Jail after which he moved to Pondicherry and started the spiritual work.

Aurobindo Ashram located at White Town, holds the physical remains of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Aurobindo Ashram has a spiritual community from different part of the world who are involved in spiritual works and meditation.

The Ashram lane was already crowded when we reached there. We have to walk bare footed inside the Ashram. We kept our sandals in the counter outside the Ashram and walked inside. Mobile phones and Cameras are not allowed inside. Everyone one was walking in complete silence.Ashram was very peaceful. At the centre, it has the tomb of Aurobindo and The Mother in White Marble. People were bowing and praying in front of the Tomb. The Ashram also displays the chairs and the Bed used by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.

We sat there and meditated for some time which calmed down our minds. It is the most peaceful experience we can ever have.

After spending some time there, we planned to visit the Pondicherry Botanical Garden. It has all the greenery and it is well maintained. We took a ride on the Toy Train and it was so fun.:D

Next place was Auroville which was much awaited. Auroville is an ideal township devoted to an experiment in Human unity.Auroville is almost 12 Kms from Pondicherry. The Matrimandir(The Golden Globe) is the main attraction there.( I am planning to do a detailed post on Auroville and concept behind it later. So keep watch this space for that)

Auroville is the one place you should never miss when you are in Pondicherry.

It was almost 5 in the evening and we realized that we were non-stop visiting places and enjoying that we even forgot to have our lunch.

We had some snacks and some drinks and decided to rest for some time.

At  night, we had a great dinner from Daily Breads Restaurant and spend the rest of the night strolling along the rock beach near to the hotel.
